In 24 hours: Donostia-San Sebastißn

An intense day

View from the Aquariumĺs underground tunnel

Morning and noon: We will first visit the Urumea River's mouth, with the Kursaal Palace and the bridges, before getting deeper into the city's heart through the Boulevard. We will be in the Old Quarter, where we will visit the beautiful Constituciˇn Square and the Basilica of Santa MarÝa. Afterwards, we will feel the smell of the port, the boats, and the fishermen's homes. At the end of the quarter, the Aquarium waits for us. After visiting the oceanarium, we will go to the Paseo Nuevo (New Promenade), up to Jorge Oteiza's sculpture, to admire the strength of the sea. If we need to get our strength back, we can eat something in any of the many restaurants the Old Quarter has, or we can follow the local tradition and taste some pintxos from bar to bar.
Afternoon and night: We must not fail to have a walk through the pedestrian streets and avenues of Donostia's Enlargement, its romantic area. There we will find the Town Hall and the Alderdi-Eder Gardens, with views over La Concha Bay, the pretty Gipuzkoa Square or La Libertad Avenue. A choice: we can do some shopping in the city centre or we can take a bus to El Antiguo Quarter. There, at the end of the Ondarreta Promenade, we will get to the old funicular station, which ascends Mount Igeldo. Here we will enjoy the backward-looking air of the Igeldo Amusement Park while our eyes dominate the whole city. On our way down, we will follow the 'end' of the coast to see how the night falls in the Wind Comb that Eduardo Chillida created. At dinner time, the best finishing touch for this intense day may be to succumb to some of the cocina de autor (creative cuisine) masters.
