Professional tourism: Introduction

Complete infrastructures, a long tradition in the organisation of events, and many hotel, catering and cultural charms for leisure make Donostia-San Sebastißn one of the favourite destinations of professional and business tourism.See more

Gipuzkoa's capital is the third city in meetings per number of participants in Spain, only beaten by Barcelona and Madrid. Spaces such as the Kursaal Palace, the Miramar Palace, or the Miramˇn Technology Park live in constant movement.
Gipuzkoa holds between eighty and a hundred congresses and conventions per year, meaning by them the meetings with more than 50 delegates and lasting from two days upwards. The favourite setting is usually Donostia's Kursaal Palace, where there are about thirty congresses per year, to which we must add eight fairs and more than sixty professional conferences.
Besides the modern premises, the 5,000 square metres for exhibitions and its two auditoriums, the Kursaal offers an extra value in its architecture and location. The emblematic centre designed by Rafael Moneo near the Urumea River's mouth and La Zurriola Beach exhibits two translucent glass cubes that change their colour throughout the day.
Actually, all the main spaces for congresses and conventions in Donostia-San Sebastißn combine their technological facilities and multi-purpose structure with singular architectures and representative settings. The encounters have an extra value in the fact that people meet in an old royal palace, like the Miramar Palace over La Concha Bay, or in an innovating technology centre, like the Miramˇn Technology Park.
Those present in meetings celebrated in Donostia-San Sebastißn appreciate the city is well communicated and has a human scale, characterised by its comfort and charm. They can go from the hotel to the congress on foot, maybe walking pleasantly beside the sea; extend the meeting in one of the restaurant of the famous creative cuisine masters; relax after an exhausting session in the two thalassotherapy centres existing in the city, going to some cultural event, or even having a walk through the Old Quarter. These are unforgettable experiences.
Since 2003, professional and business tourism has another point of reference in Ficoba, Gipuzkoa's exhibition centre located in Irun. Ficoba specialises in trans-frontier fairs gathering people from both sides of the Bidasoa River.
